07. SUPPORT FOCUS
FOCUS is leading a revolution in the Church and our society by providing true knowledge of Jesus Christ.
To those who deeply value the truth, richness and depth of the Catholic faith, the organization Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) is inspiring. They are so good at what they do that some joke that FOCUS should be considered the “marketing department” of the Catholic Church. At its base level, FOCUS recruits and trains young people to be missionaries to other young people. In the process of doing this, though, it is actually changing the whole Church and the world.
The young FOCUS missionaries are fond of saying, “If what Jesus says about himself is true, it changes everything. How have you let Jesus change you?” In fact, that simple, innocent question from a 20-something missionary is the central life question for each of us, no matter our age or state in life. If we take up the challenge of answering it, we cannot remain unchanged.
The St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) has been a FOCUS campus since 2018. There is currently a team of five missionaries at St. T’s engaging with students, organizing Bible study groups, and conducting retreats. The tremendous growth we have experienced from their efforts is one of the reasons St. Teresa’s needs a new church.
