10,001 Donors

There are about 2,000 Newman Centers across the United States. Some of these centers are essentially “single-donor” funded. In other words, one person or family pays to build it and becomes a major contributor to its ongoing support. Why do they do this?

It’s because they delight in seeing young people come to a living faith in Jesus Christ. They believe the holy marriages and religious vocations that emerge from Newman Centers are precious in God’s eyes. They see Catholic worship in a Newman Center as a profound expression of the life of the Church.

While a “single-donor” Newman Center is a beautiful commitment—and we certainly hope to have many anchor donors supporting St. Teresa’s new church—we also value the call to invite others into the joy of giving toward something so important.

We aim to raise $32 million in this campaign, but we have a secondary goal of seeking support from at least 10,001 different people. We want these 10,001 souls to have embraced the mission and purpose of building the new St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center, and to pray for its success.

Trying to achieve this secondary goal actually increases our workload, but it’s worth it to us. 10,001 gifts means roughly 10 gifts per day over the three years of the campaign. But that also means ten people per day affected by the mission. It means we reached them, they are praying for us, and they are changed by what we are trying to do. As the campaign proceeds, we will report on both the amount of money we have raised AND the number of gifts.
