09. HONOR MOTHER TERESA
Few parishes around the world are named after St. Teresa of Calcutta and the young people at St. Teresa’s in Kearney love "Mother" very much.
There is something mysterious and almost magical about how much young people are affected by St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa or just “Mother”). They love her words and images and put them on t-shirts and stick them to their laptops and water bottles. What she said and did seems to resonate in the very deepest places in their hearts. Even now she attracts them to adore Jesus, to pray, to serve, and to love.
The unique perspectives of different generations are worth taking a moment to reflect on. When a 19-year-old discovers the words and actions of St. Teresa of Calcutta or St. John Paul II and is inspired to change their lives in emulation of them, they wonder what it was like to be alive when these saints lived.
For those of us who were alive when these saints lived, we do have a duty because of it. We should reflect deeply on what Mother’s message was to us and the world at that time, and how we responded. Why did God put her in our lives? What must I do now?
