Gift of Grain

Are you a farmer interested in contributing? Give the Gift of Grain!

For generations, Nebraska farmers have used the fruits of their harvest to provide for their families, strengthen their communities, and support the Church. A Gift of Grain offers another way to put your harvest to work by helping build a new home for the St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center while potentially providing valuable tax benefits.

The Benefits

For farmers, a gift of grain can be a meaningful and tax-efficient way to support the future of the St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center.

By donating grain directly rather than selling the grain and donating the proceeds, you may be able to:

  • Reduce taxable farm income. Because the grain is given directly to St. Teresa's before it is sold, the proceeds from the sale of the donated grain generally are not included in your farm income.

  • Reduce potential self-employment and income taxes. Keeping the sale out of farm income may provide tax benefits beyond those of a traditional cash gift.

  • Continue deducting production costs. Generally, the expenses associated with raising the donated crop may still be deducted as farm business expenses.

  • Turn the fruits of your harvest into a lasting gift. Your grain can directly support the construction of a new church and Newman Center that will serve students, families, and the Catholic community for generations.

Every farmer's tax situation is different. We encourage you to consult with your tax or financial advisor to determine how a gift of grain may benefit you.

How It Works

1. Complete the Gift of Grain form below.
We partner with The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska to make your gift possible. The link below will take you to a form on their website, where you'll provide details about your donation, including where your grain is stored. Be sure to designate the St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center (UNK) as the beneficiary.

2. Transfer ownership of your grain.
Contact your grain elevator to transfer or deliver the grain to The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska account. If the elevator you are using does not have an account for the Foundation, please call the Foundation’s office at (402) 488-2142 and they will establish one.

NOTICE: Gifts of Grain are not currently accepted at Bunge elevators. Kearney donors can use The Andersons or call CFSN @ 402 488-2142 for other options.

3. We coordinate the sale.
Once you complete your form, The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska will contact the elevator to sell the grain immediately. All proceeds will benefit the St. Teresa of Calcutta Newman Center.

4. Your harvest helps build the future.
Proceeds from your gift support the campaign for a new St. Teresa of Calcutta Church and Newman Center, helping create a permanent home for faith and community at UNK.
